What to Say When Someone Criticizes You
• I appreciate the feedback and will take it to heart.
• You gave me a lot to think about, I appreciate that.
• Thank you so much for letting me know about this.
• I’m glad you took the time to tell me these things.
• I will certainly take what you said into consideration.
• I always like to hear a lot of opinions.
• You seem really uncomfortable with differences—can we talk about that?
• I like constructive criticism, but this seems a bit harsh to me.
• Your comments are usually right on, but they’re not justified in this case.
• I don’t think that’s fair to say.
• You can’t please everyone all of the time.
• Don’t you think you’re exaggerating, here?
• Do you usually criticize people who are different than you?
• You should take a look at yourself before you start judging others.
• I don’t know where all this acrimony is coming from, but please don’t direct it at me.
• Doing this only brings you down in the eyes of others.
• People who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.
• I won’t allow any judgments on that.
• I would never allow myself to comment on that.
• I won’t dignify that with a response.
• Don’t you ever accept others as they are?
