Post-Noun Modifiers – ESL English Grammar

There are five main types of post-noun modifiers: adjectival
prepositional phrases, adjective (relative) clauses, appositive phrases,
participial phrases, and infinitive phrases. Here is an example of each
of the five types of post-noun modifiers, with the noun being modified in
bold and the modifier in italics:

Adjectival prepositional phrase:
The car in the garage belongs to a friend.

Adjective clause:
The car that is parked in the garage belongs to a friend.

Appositive phrase:
The car, an old Ford, belongs to a friend.

Participial phrase:
The car parked in the garage belongs to a friend.

Infinitive phrase:
The decision to repair the car was a costly one.
